Role Description
The Global Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Biologics Platform Leader is responsible for establishing EHS performance objectives and driving continuous improvements across the Biologics platform. The individual will serve as a Subject Mater Expert in Biological Safety program development and implementation. The role encompasses internal sites, Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD), third party suppliers and contract manufacturers. The role will report to the Global EHS Lead with a dotted line to the Biologic Platform Leader.
Responsibilities:
- Implementation of strategic global EHS programs by partnering and collaborating with respective platforms.
- Provide hands-on support and effective communications to the platform site leadership teams.
- Lead a network of site EHS leaders to drive EHS performance, monitor and report progress.
- Lead periodic process confirmation exercises with the platform and sites.
- Partner with business lines and site leadership to ensure adequate resources are in place at sites to maintain EHS compliance, manage EHS risk, emergency response and drive a pro-active and positive culture.
- Develop suitable KPIs and EHS goals to drive continuous EHS improvement.
- Support the platform and applicable sites in partnership with the Zoetis BCP (Business Continuity Plan) lead and Risk Management & Insurance to ensure sites’ BCP Programs and FM Global recommendations are managed appropriately.
- Serve as the EHS BioSafety representative to define OELs and OEBs, develop technical guidance and internal requirements and support primary and operational risk assessments.
- Perform EHS reviews of third-party suppliers, and where appropriate, oversee EHS improvements in accordance with risk management guidelines.
- Build EHS capacity at selected third party suppliers. Lead and/or participate in internal and external EHS Audits - as requested by the Global EHS Audit Lead.
- Review and endorse capital projects from an EHS point of view and perform EHS reviews for key business decisions (e.g., sourcing change requests (SCRs), capital projects).
- Participate in the development of joint ventures and acquisitions; propose and provide oversight on the EHS approach per acquisition.
- Support acquisition and divestiture activities with emphasis on due diligence.
- Provide EHS integration and on-boarding support for new sites, and new site EHS leads being integrated into the specific platform of responsibility.
Organizational Relationships:
- Knowledge of life Sciences/animal health business operations preferred.
- Manufacturing site EHS management experience required, with track record of strong EHS performance.
- Biological Safety program development and implementation.
- Corporate EHS management experience is desired with expertise in managing global programs.
- Experience across breadth of risk management functions including environmental, occupational health and safety, biosafety, industrial hygiene, loss prevention and process safety is preferred.
- Matrix reporting experience required. Site EHS leaders report direct line to their respective Site Leaders, and dotted line to the EHS Platform Lead.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum education of bachelor’s degree in science, Engineering, Health and Safety or other relevant discipline.
- 10 years of relevant professional experience in EHS. Advanced degree in EHS or risk management desirable.
Technical Skills Requirements:
- Proven leader with a sustained EHS performance record – a technical expert in principles, methodologies, and the successful implementation of EHS culture.
- Good working knowledge of global EHS regulations, Biological Safety and Management Systems.
- Proven ability to develop and implement successful compliance programs in large and/or complex organizations.
- Demonstrated agility and ability to work successfully across a complex organization.
- Demonstrated track record in influencing customers and EHS professionals (and others not in direct line) to achieve results/ continuous performance improvement.
- Strong oral and written communication and organizational development skills.
- Works effectively with others in the organization outside the line of formal authority (such as peers in other units or senior management, shared service models) to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems.
- Proficiency in English, written and oral, required.
Candidate must have the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time, travel, drive and have flexibility to work weekends and holidays as requested.
