POSITION SUMMARY
The Technical Manager is responsible for providing technical service and training to our customers, as well as supporting the Pig and Poultry business and commercial team in achieving the sales objectives. The role drives demand generation, ensures proper product use, and supports market development for Zoetis’ animal health portfolio.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct technical support and expertise to key accounts/end users and veterinary stakeholders in South Africa.
- Support research and launch of new products.
- Develop technical and approved marketing support materials.
- Provide product portfolio support (trials, technical queries, customer support and presentations).
- Deliver training to the field force and customers.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, veterinary groups and key opinion leaders.
- Write and publish articles in line with internal review/approval processes.
- Ensure all pharmacovigilance and product complaints are reported, captured, documented and followed up in line with SOPs.
- Work closely with the Marketing Manager to develop and implement business strategies and identify new business opportunities.
- Work cross-functionally with interspecies and regional teams to analyze customer needs and identify new opportunities.
- Ensure adherence to compliance requirements (including use of approved claims /materials and required documentation).
- Continuously improve product and industry knowledge.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine / BVSc (or equivalent veterinary degree).
- Registered with SAVC and licensed to practice as a Veterinarian in South Africa
- Continued professional development post-qualification
Experience:.
- 5+ years experience in a veterinary/animal health technical role with strong pig & poultry expertise aligned to the position.
- 2+ years experience in a commercial organization, working to defined objectives/KPIs and partnering closely with Sales/Marketing.
- Proven ability to design and deliver training to field teams and customers
- Strong understanding of relevant production systems and customer environment in the Pigs & Poultry market.
- Research experience would be advantageous.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Strong veterinary/clinical and production-system knowledge in the role’s core species area
- Ability to provide high-quality technical consultation: case assessment, differential diagnosis/problem solving, and evidence-based recommendations.
- Competence in developing technical content and delivering effective product/disease trainings.
- Analytical skills, including basic data interpretation (and basic statistics where needed).
- Strong computer literacy: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; ability to maintain accurate technical records and reports.
- Working knowledge of pharmacovigilance/adverse event reporting and product complaint processes (per company SOPs)
PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and, where applicable, regionally (including overnight travel).
- Physically able to conduct on-site customer visits (e.g., standing/walking for extended periods, entering farms/production environments) and comply with required PPE/biosecurity measures.
